WorkCompRecap: Rule Risks!

Today’s issue of WorkCompRecap features RIMS’ recent announcement that it is advising the risk management community to review and prepare for OSHA’s new rules regarding electronic recordkeeping of workplace injuries, which will take effect on January 1, 2017, except for a portion which will become effective on August 10, 2016.

RIMS noted that back in 2014 it had expressed some concerns about the new process, and that while some of its suggestions were implemented, others remain, including injury causes being ambiguous, potentially creating misconceptions about an organization’s workplace safety, and that publishing employee injuries can increase litigation against an organization, or be used against an organization by competitors. RIMS did also share its appreciation for efforts to make reporting more transparent, and noted that as with all new systems there are initial challenges to tackle.
