WorkCompRecap: Pill Poll!

Today’s issue of WorkCompRecap features the National Safety Council’s release of results of a poll that found 99% of doctors are prescribing opioid medicines for longer than the three-day period recommended by the CDC, with 23% saying they prescribe at least a month’s worth of opioids.

Other key findings from the poll included that 99% of doctors have seen a pill-seeking patient or evidence of opioid abuse, but only 38% typically refer them to treatment. The NSC noted that while doctors are well intentioned, the results indicate that more education and training are necessary in order to ensure that pain is actually treated most effectively.
