WorkCompRecap: Against Abuse!

Today’s issue of WorkCompRecap features the American Medical Association (AMA)’s Task Force to Reduce Opioid Abuse’s announcement that it has released the first of several national recommendations to address the growing opioid epidemic.

The task force’s initial effort will focus on urging physicians to register for and use state-based prescription drug monitoring programs (PDMPs) as part of the decision-making process when considering treatment options. The AMA noted that when PDMPs are fully-funded, contain relevant clinical info and are available at points of care, they can be an effective tool to help physicians identify patients who may be misusing opioids and determine better care strategies for them.
