WorkCompRecap: Reforms & Reductions!

Today’s issue of WorkCompRecap features Pennsylvania Governor Tom Corbett’s signing into law of Senate Bill 1180 and House Bill 1846, fulfilling recommendations developed by the Heroin and Other Opioids Workgroup that he convened in May.

SB 1180 establishes the ABC-MAP prescription drug monitoring program, while HB 1846 will reform the practice of physician dispensing in the state’s workers’ comp system, which is expected to save employers approximately $13 million annually in premium costs. Labor & Industry Secretary Julia Hearthway noted that HB 1846 removes the incentive to over-prescribe costly drugs, helping reduce dependence and abuses in the system.
