WorkCompRecap: New WCRI Report!

Today’s issue of WorkCompRecap features a new report from WCRI that looked at how closed drug formularies, similar to the one in place in Texas, might affect the prevalence and costs of drugs in 23 other states’ workers’ comp systems that do not currently have them.

The study noted that if prescribers’ behavior patterns changed in the same way they did in Texas, states could reduce total prescription costs by an estimated 14-29%, and non-formulary drug prevalence could drop from 10-17% to 3-5% of all prescriptions, with even greater effects expected in certain states. The study also provides other scenarios to illustrate the impact of formularies based on how physicians might respond.
